Need For Speed III

By Joshua and Zach Gaberel

NEED FOR SPEED is an exciting car chase game featuring Hot Pursuit, Tournaments, and Knockouts. The latest version, Need for Speed III, has a lot more options than the earlier Need for Speed II. Version II is a single-race game with better cars, but Need For Speed III offers a choice: You can play it as a multiplayer, multirace game, and you can play it not only from one computer but also on the Internet on Electronic Arts Website.

In Hot Pursuits, a gamer can be a cop, and the other gamer can be the car being chased. Tournaments involve two drivers who race against each other and are played on a split screen with a race on taking place on each screen. Whoever wins gets to play the person who won against the other. In Knockout, all players race at the same time. The player who is last becomes the truck driver, whose job is to help his friend win; he blocks the other cars by putting his truck in the other racers’ way.

If you succeed in all the Hot Pursuit races, you get the pursuit El Niño. This level is hard to achieve. We have not yet been successful. We like Need For Speed III because we like to do the Pursuits. The racetracks in the game are mostly located in the U.S.—in the mountains, in the deserts, and by the ocean. One race is called Hometown.

You can change the weather in this game, and it is fun to drive in the snow, in the rain, and when there is lightening. The desert is especially fun. You can also choose night driving, which is very hard to do. The cars that are the most fun to drive are the Mercedes Benz and the Diablo SV. These have the best turning, are the fastest, and have good grip on the road.

This game is great, even though we think that Need for Speed II is better than III. We just hope that Electronic Arts comes up with an ultrarealistic Need for Speed cop simulation that would let you choose a Pursuit on the highway with traffic, where everything can go wrong.
