Directors' Notes

May 8, 2000

DACS’ Board of Directors met at the Resource Center on May 8, 2000. Present were Messrs. Bovaird, Buoy, Cohen, David, Gingras, Ostergren, Preston, Setaro, and Mrs. Gaberel. Also present was Seabury Lyon of the Western Connecticut Amateur Radio Association. Chairman Wally David presided and Secretary Larry Buoy kept the records of the meeting. The minutes of the April 10 meeting were approved.

Finance and membership

Treasurer Charlie Bovaird reported combined bank and postal accounts of $17,942.19, plus postage on hand of $171.23 for a total of $18,113.42, less liability of $7,654.00 in prepaid dues for a net of $10,459.42. He reported current membership of 552. Larry Buoy said he had spoken with Jim Ragsdale about obtaining regular notification of recent member dropouts and would attempt telephone contact to track their reasons for dropping out and the possibility of their rejoining.

Resource center lease renewal

Charlie also reported that action regarding our move to new quarters was still in limbo.

Donated computer rehab project

Charlie Bovaird discussed the organization and schedule for the rehabilitation of the computers and the various peripherals donated by the Danbury Hospital and other sources for charitable purposes. Included were the formation of teams of volunteers to accomplish the various tasks, descriptions of the tasks and their current status, target dates, and planned or probable venues.

Dacs.org & APCUG CDs

Jeff Setaro reported that the Home Page of the DACS Website needs updating. President Ostergren reported that there had been no word regarding the status of the CD-ROMs previously ordered from APCUG.

PCExpo & Intergalactic 2000

The annual InterGalactic User Group Conference and PCExpo meetings will be held on June 10 and June 27-29, respectively.

Meetings rescheduled

Since both the June and July general meetings will be delayed to accommodate the presentation provider and the Independence Day holiday, it was agreed that Directors Meetings in those months be held on June 12 and July 10, respectively.

New graphics class

President Ostergren advised of a new graphics class being organized by Ken Graff. The board discussed the fees. Mr. Ostergren was asked to have Ken estimate if the costs might exceed the usual $7.50 per attendee previously charged for classes.

Doc copy to Webmaster

Jeff Setaro made a plea to all involved in or controlling the preparation of copy for dacs.doc to submit copy to him earlier if he is to be expected to meet the Website upload deadline of the first of the month.

Virus presentation

Also briefly discussed was the possibility of Jeff’s making a presentation on virus prevention, perhaps in July, in view of the recent activities of hackers.

Hamfest

Mr. Lyon proposed that DACS participate in his group’s (also known as the Candlewood Amateur Radio Association, or CARA) Hamfest to be held on September 17 in Newtown. The focus of this event: community involvement, which suggested affiliation with DACS and increased exposure for both of our groups. As an initial effort for mutual benefit, he offered one or more tables for DACS’ use at the Hamfest and various other activities that might be considered. After a Q&A, it was agreed that DACS participate in the Hamfest.

A true record.
