Intergalactic UG Conference

However, guest Jack Marsella discussed the proceedings of the InterGalactic User Group Officers Conference, held in New York City on Saturday, June 10, 2000. Jack reported that lack of volunteers from the organizing groups, the Association of Personal Computer User Groups (APCUG) and the New York PC User Group (NYPC), negatively affected the success of the conference through reduced vendor participation, and last-minute venue and event coordination. The focus of the APCUG meeting was toward increasing cooperation among APCUG and other regional and local organizations by coordinating their calendars so that vendor presentations might be logically arranged and collectively financed for the convenience of all. The system employed by various Florida groups was cited as an example. These included Web links to a database of vendor contacts and to posted calendars for each group's events to avoid conflicts or to suggest ways to organize joint events. In our area, the logical source of such cooperation would be via the NorthEast User Group Association and through the possibility of DACS sharing its vendor contacts. Since all user groups seem to be suffering the same declining membership syndrome, the APCUG meeting also discussed possible methods of attracting new membership among women and younger people.

Resource Center lease

There is no real progress in acquiring a new lease for the Resource Center site.

APCUG CD-ROMs

We have no further information about the CD-ROMs ordered from APCUG. The question of checking these CD-ROMs for viruses prior to any distribution among the DACS membership was broached.

A true record.
