Apple Sauce

Mac OS X DesktopAt the August 7th 2001 general meeting, Danbury Area Computer Society will be checking out a non-Windows side of computing. Two Apple speakers will be available that evening: DACS’ own Matthew Greger of The Business Helper and Gar Reynolds, Apple Computer’s new user group program manager. Matthew is a DACS board member, leader of the web page design and an Apple computer consultant. Gar, an experienced Apple computer speaker, has been active in the Mac community for many years and most recently served as president of Kinki MacUser Group in Osaka, Japan. He has been a speaker at User Group University, a User Group Guide at Macworld and an Apple Regional Liaison to user groups in Asia.

Both speakers promise not to make a sales pitch, but to offer members a fun presentation; their goal is to connect with the audience in an informative, candid, and intuitive fashion. Each will bring an Apple computer to show the Apple hardware. After the hardware demonstration with an iBook, and a Titanium Powerbook, the speakers intend to speak about Apple software, such as iDVD, iTunes and some recent releases from the Macworld. They intend to close the presentation with a demonstration of Apple’s latest operating system: OS X. They will also answer questions from DACS members.

The General Meeting will start at 7.00 pm, with a computer (Windows, Apple and others) question-and-answer session led by Bruce Preston. It will be followed by brief club announcements. The main presentation is at 8.00 pm. DACS August 7th meeting will take place at Danbury Hospital Auditorium. The meetings are always free and open to the public, and friends can be brought along.

The Apple presentation will be an opportunity for DACS members to compare another computer platform and to discuss its features among themselves and the speakers. We will also have a sign-up sheet for those interested in revitalizing the DACS Mac SIG. We would like to see this become a top-notch Macintosh User Group, but it cannot without members’ participation and support.
