Everything you ever wanted to know
about searching and Google

By Jamie Yates

Image: Google Front PageHave you ever searched for anything on the Internet? I'm sure the answer is yes. Would you like to do more than just enter some words in a web sites search box and get a half million results?

Searching has become a major sport on the Internet and in many cases it's very frustrating.

Have you ever used the web's number one ranked search engine? I'm sure the answer is yes. If you don't know which one I'm referring to, it’s Google. Want to know how it stays ahead of the pack?

Two of DACs members, Bruce Preston and Jamie Yates will take you to parts and functions of Google you may not be aware existed. It's not just your father's search site. Google can do many things to make searching easier if you know how. It also provides many interesting capabilities other than generic searches. You can search specifically for images or products you may want to buy or sites in certain languages(and even translate them into English when you find them). You can get news headlines and it even has a calculator and provides the ability to get the definition of words and phrases.

It provides a search bar and a desktop application so you don't have to open a browser to search.

Be at the exciting January 6th DACs meeting and learn how to search better and some of the other functions that Google provides. You will also learn how Google uses pigeons to actually perform its searches. They perform in groups called Pigeon Clusters (PCs to the uninitiated).
