Directors' Notes

A meeting of your Board of Direc tors was held at the Resource Center on Monday, February 9, 2004. Present were Messrs Berger, Bovaird, Gallichotte, Keane, Preston, Scheef and Setaro and Mrs. Collens. Also present were Messrs Buoy and Ostergren. President Jim Scheef presided; Secretary Larry Buoy kept the record. Minutes of the Meeting held January 12, 2004 were approved.

Treasurer Charlie Bovaird reported current cash assets of $16,599.65, consisting of total bank and postal accounts in the amount of $16,457.37 plus postage on hand of $142.28. Subtracting liabilities of prepaid dues in the amount of $4,790.00 left a net of $11,809.65. He also reported current membership of 404.

Regarding future General Meetings, it was announced that David Brenner of Snap Video would make the presentation in March. Bruce Preston suggested Jeff Simpson of A.G.. Edwards & Sons, Inc. as a potential source of a presentation on the availability of financial information via the Internet. Howie Berger advised that he had talked with a principal of Paetec Communications regarding a program on linking individual wide area and local area networks via digital subscriber lines. He also advised that he was attempting to obtain a list of available speakers from WestConn’s Community Relations office. If successful, he was asked to share such list with other members of the Board.

Bruce Preston announced that Ed Heere had offered to do the May presentation on medical scanning techniques between physicians and hospitals, a technology his company, AMSYS, is offering. Mention was also made of the possible recruitment of David Pogue, “State of the Art” columnist for the “Circuits” section of The New York Times.

Formation of a slate of officers of the Corporation for the coming year, to be considered at the next Board meeting in March was addressed. Officers present (Jim Scheef, President; Charlie Bovaird, Treasurer; Jeff Setaro, Vice President) offered to stand for reelection. Secretary Larry Buoy offered to stand for reelection if a replacement could not be found. It was also recognized that officers not present (Vice Presidents Marlene Gaberel and Gene Minasi) should be canvassed as to their willingness to be re-elected.

Jim Scheef updated his efforts to distribute the door prizes from the Microsoft presentation at the November General Meeting.

There followed a discussion on offering members employement or technical service listings, via the newsletter or our Web Site. Also discussed were options for advertising DACS to the general public, including cooperation with the Senior Net or other programs catering to computer beginners. Updating and using the DACS brochure, now long obsolete in many aspects, was considered. Howie Berger also suggested that DACS also try to become involved in Science Horizons, the coordinator and sponsor of the Science Fairs and provider of mentors to the science students within the public school systems, and offered to obtain contact information.
