At the next General Meeting on Tuesday, August 2, the topic of discussion will be the clubs-within-the club--DACS’ Special Interest Groups. A number of SIG leaders have offered to take the stage, and will talk about what they do and what they have accomplished in the last year for their members. By their name, SIGS provide an opportunity to explore more deeply into an area of interest, such as a particular software application, trouble-shooting task, operating system or programming language. Many computer user groups have found that popular SIGS often outdraw their General Meetings in attendance, and in some cases, they have spawned entirely new user groups of their own. DACS currently boasts 16 SIGS, and members are entitled to attend as many meetings as they like. Many members who primarily attend the General Meetings have not taken the opportunity to join a SIG, and those who have joined one, may be unaware of what’s going on in the others. Each month some of these SIGs make announcements about their meetings but usually provide limited details of how each works and what can be learned at them. Come hear the details and bring your friends. You may find a SIG you would like to join or learn more about—or even to form a SIG of your own. It’s a great place to get your detailed technical questions answered on topics not covered at our General Meetings In order to keep the meeting on schedule, each presentation will be clocked with a ten-minute timer, with Q&A commencing at the end of the program. Topics covered in the presentations will include: 1. SIG name This will be your chance to ask questions and learn more about our different SIG groups and meet their leaders. Perhaps you’ll want to join, or even start one of your own. DACS General Meetings are held the first Tuesday of the month at Danbury Hospital auditorium. Events begin at 7 p.m. with general networking and Random Access. Club business starts at 7:30, followed by a short break and the featured presentation at 8:00. Come to this meeting to learn more about what DACS’ SIGs have to offer. It should be an enlightening event. |
