September 12, 2005

A regular meeting of your Board of Directors was held at the Resource Center on Monday, September 12, 2005. Present were Messrs. Berger, Bovaird, Cohen, Preston, Setaro, and Yates. Also present were Allan Ostergren and Lisa Leifels. President Jeff Setaro presided and Secretary Lisa Leifels kept the record. Minutes of the last meeting held on August 8, 2005 were approved.

Treasurer Charles Bovaird reported current cash assets of $14,120.20, consisting of total bank and postal accounts in the amount of $14,028.98 plus postage on hand of $91.22. Subtracting a liability of prepaid dues in the amount of $5,737.00 left a net equity of $8,383.20. He also reported that the current membership is 349.

The General Meeting topics for the remaining months in 2005 are: for October 4, Organizing your Hard Drive by Gene Barlow; for November 1, Microsoft; for December 6, The Future of the Internet by John Patrick.

In the event that Microsoft is not able to present in November, Allan Ostergren suggested that Bruce Preston do a presentation on moving music from LP’s to either a CD or an iPod. Bruce offered to demonstrate how to clean up the hissing and popping noises in the music. He prefers to use the software Audio Surgeon from Voyetra for doing the cleanup.

Jamie Yates has commitments for future presentations in 2006 on the following topics: AutoCAD, SmartHome and Apple. He said he would check with the presenters to find out which month they prefer to do their presentation. Jeff Setaro suggested that we try and get a hold of our contact at the FBI to talk about computer security.

Richard Corzo said he was able to TiVo the local cable show “Time Out” with Kevin Gallagher. The show is on Comcast cable channel 23 on Friday nights at 8:30 pm and repeated on Monday morning at 11:00 am. Richard reported that reasonable questions were being asked, and he recommended that DACS should go ahead and agree to do an interview on the show.

Jim Scheef reported that the new UPS has been installed in the Resource Center, and is supporting the Windows server. The batteries in the old UPS have been replaced. Next week the AOS SIG will install UPS software on the Linux machine and connect it to the old UPS.

Charlie Bovaird has installed the F-Prot Antivirus Software on the server in the Resource Center. There are still a few outstanding issues that need to be resolved to get it to work properly.

Howie Berger has found a few contacts to help us recruit community service volunteers. Jeff Setaro suggested that they videotape the general meetings and edit the raw footage, so that we can get ourselves back on public access cable. Howie also offered the idea of creating a community service SIG.
