Minutes
October 10, 2005

A regular meeting of your Board of Directors was held at the Resource Center on Monday, October 10, 2005. Present were Messrs. Berger, Cohen, Corzo, Keane, Preston, Scheef, Setaro, and Yates. Also present was Lisa Leifels. President Jeff Setaro presided and Secretary Lisa Leifels kept the record. Minutes of the last meeting held on September 12, 2005 were approved. In the absence of Charles Bovaird, we did not receive the treasurer’s report.

Bruce Preston has agreed to do a presentation on moving music from LP’s to CD and iPod at the November General Meeting using the software Audio Surgeon from Voyetra. John Patrick will be talking about the future of the internet at the December General Meeting. Jim Scheef offered to talk about using Open Office 2.0 in both the Linux and Windows operating systems at the January General Meeting.

Bill Keane suggested that it might be a good idea to give away a copy of Audio Surgeon’s Voyetra software at Bruce’s presentation.

Jamie Yates has commitments for future presentations in 2006 on the following topics: AutoCAD, SmartHome and Apple. Richard Corzo will contact Dave Marra after the first of the year to find out when he can do the Apple presentation. Jim Scheef suggested having a presentation showing people how to use the Linux operating system. Jamie Yates suggested that Mozilla’s Firefox browser software would be another interesting topic and Mozilla’s Thunderbird email software could also be included.

Jamie Yates suggested that we add a block section to the newsletter to publicize what was given away as a door prize at the General Meeting. He also said it might be a good idea to cross advertise our meetings to some of the other computer user groups that are close by.

Jim Scheef thought it would be a good idea to publicize more than one of the upcoming meetings in advance on the posters that are distributed. Jamie Yates thought we should advertise two months at a time. He also suggested that we start keeping a list of the locations of where we are putting the posters that announce the upcoming general meetings.

Howie Berger spoke to Amanda Castro at WestConn, who is in charge of Community Service. She is going to give him a few names of people who are willing to videotape the general meetings and edit the raw footage for community service hours. He also thought it might be helpful to recruit a few additional people to fulfill their community service hours by assisting in the marketing of DACS.

Howie also offered to speak to someone at the Danbury News-Times to find out what our advertising options are and explore how we can get an article published announcing one of our upcoming meetings. He will also look into advertising in the local free newspapers such as the Spectrum in New Milford and the Citizen News in New Fairfield and Sherman.
