Board of Directors Minutes
September 11, 2006

Due to lack of a quorum, the regular meeting of your Board of Directors scheduled for Monday, September 11, 2006, could take no official action. However, those present (Charles Bovaird, John Gallichotte, Lisa Leifels, Jeff Setaro and Jamie Yates) briefly discussed the upcoming general meetings.

The present General Meeting programs scheduled for the remaining months in 2006 are: for October 3, Mozilla’s Firefox and Extensions by Jim Scheef; for November 7, How the Patriot Act has affected Public Libraries; for December 5, The Future of the Internet by John Patrick.

A member at the September General Meeting requested that Google be presented as a topic at a future meeting. Jamie Yates said he may be able to put together a presentation on Google for the January 2006 General Meeting.

Jim Scheef communicated that a new DACS member, Rob Limbaugh, has offered DACS some equipment that could help out the Server SIG. The equipment is three rack mount servers and a rack mount UPS (probably needs new batteries). He also has a rack, which we could purchase for approximately $300. Jim thought that two of the servers could be used as “sandboxes” where SIG members could actually touch, install and configure enterprise-grade software. The third server could replace our aging current “server,” and could run a copy of the DACS web site, so that changes could be tested before moving to “production.” This would let Jim build up the Server SIG and do some real education.

Sean Henderson reported that he dropped off a tall, wheeled, carpeted EIA 19-in rack and some rack-shelves to the DACS Resource Center during the last half of the Server SIG. Jim Scheef was glad to have the extra equipment.

Charlie mentioned that Voice for Joanie is looking for a volunteer to evaluate Cyberlink Brainfingers, an assistive technology tool that allows people with limited mobility to operate communication software, educational software and video games designed for the physically impaired. More information can be found at www.brainfingers. com. Volunteers should contact Shirley Fredlund at Voice for Joanie (860) 350-9034.
