Smart Computing Magazine

Our treat for the Spring will be a visit from Smart Computing Magazine.  On behalf of Sandhills Publishing, the magazine’s publisher, Marcy Kremer will be the speaker at our general meeting on Tuesday, May 1, 2007.

Three main reasons that readers tend to be pleased with the magazine are:

-that it is written in plain English,

-that it covers a broad range of topics for all users, and

-that it is reader-driven, not advertiser-driven.

Marcy will walk us through the most recent issue of Smart Computing and introduce us to the helpful and timely information found in each monthly issue. Whether you are a beginner or an advanced computer user, Smart Computing has timely information to help improve your computer related productivity. Sections of the magazine include Plugged In (articles about the Internet and email), Tech Support (solving PC problems), Windows (information on Windows 98, 2000, ME, XP, and Vista), Quick Studies (brief tutorials on how to get the most out of popular applications), and the monthly Cover Story (15-25 pages devoted to a specific topic).

A significant portion of the value of the subscription to the magazine is provided through SmartComputing.com.  Marcy will also give us a demo of this website to show us how to put its powerful tools to work.  Each user friendly tool is designed to find the computing and troubleshooting information you need when you need it.  These tools include Search All Articles, My Personal Library, the Q & A Board, and the Online Tech Support Center. The Online Tech Support Center includes access to the entire database of error messages, the solutions knowledge base, an archive of troubleshooting articles, maintenance procedures, tutorials on how to install just about anything, a computer dictionary, an encyclopedia, and a manufacturers tech support index.  And, in addition to all of those resources, assistance is available by e-mail and phone as well.

The presentation, aimed at educating attendees about Sandhills Publishing’s magazines and the Smart Computing User Group Program, will take members through an issue of Smart Computing, convey the value of SmartComputing.com through a live demonstration, and introduce attendees to Smart Computing’s sister publications - PC Today, First Glimpse, Reference Series, and Computer Power User.  Marcy will also share with us how we can receive unlimited computer support from Smart Computing.

In addition, everyone attending the meeting can expect to receive a goodie bag complete with the newest issue of Smart Computing Magazine, a Smart Computing pen, and a 2007 calendar mouse pad.  Great door prizes will be given away as well!

We invite anyone interested in expanding their computer knowledge to attend the Danbury Area Computer Society’s meeting.  The meeting is free and open to the public. It will be held in the auditorium of Danbury Hospital on Tuesday, May 1, 2007. Mark it on your calendar now!
