The Connecticut Film Festival takes over the City of Danbury and campus of Western Connecticut State University this June 2-7, 2009 with a six day and night festival and conference of independent film, music, interactive and social media, gaming and script writing. The weeklong event will be highlighted by more than 130 films and over 100 educational events including keynotes speakers as well as workshops and panels on pre-and post production, marketing and the legal side of the business. In June, there will be an opportunity to attend more than 50 musical performances by independent artists along with dozens of industry networking events, parties and fundraisers.

Other highlights include: The 24-hour “Cup A Joe” film competition (produce and edit a 3-minute film) and “Screenwriters Unblocked” the unique five-day screenwriters total immersion program co-produced by The Writers Guild of America East; the only program of its type that allows screenwriters to experience the full path of the creative process from casting agents to having their scripts read by actors to critiques and hands-on coaching. The program then culminates with a master class featuring Hollywood screenwriter James V. Hart (Contact, August Rush and Hook).

Additionally, new to our line up is an annual focus on international Cinematographers. In 2009 we will feature Eastern European cinematographers sponsored by The Romanian Cultural Institute. Also new is our High School Student Filmmaker, Musician & Digital Media Summit co-produced by Paul Green’s School Of Rock, The Education Connection and The Center For 21st Century Skills.

This year, the Danbury Ice Arena will present the inaugural 3-day Interactive Component on June 4-6. Titled, “Creating and Sharing”, this non-consumerist event will highlight Web, Animation, Advocacy, Gaming and Free and Open Source Software (FLOSS). The “Glass Silo” area will be tricked out with Independent Interactive Gaming, dozens of exhibitors in the main arena and demonstrations with over 30 workshops for all skill levels, 9 panel discussions, an Interactive Juried Art Competition, indie films and a keynote address given by Eric Zimmerman, Founder of Gamelab.

The festival is a competition and exhibition with over a dozen film categories eligible for Jury and Audience awards and is the culmination of the annual year round statewide series of 1, 2 and 3-day festivals produced at cultural, arts and educational institutions throughout Connecticut.
