General Meetings

General meeting reviews/previews: Allan is writing the review for November, Sean will write the preview and review for December.
We need a confirmation from Jay Ferron for the Windows 7 presentation scheduled for February 2010. The March presentation on backing up data will be a broader meeting to cover 3 platforms: Apple, Windows, and Linux.

  • The General Meeting schedule for next year (first Monday or first Tuesday) will be determined and announced by Danbury Hospital in early December.
  • Drew circulated his Brainstorming General Meeting Presentation Ideas. This will be reviewed and discussed at a later meeting.
  • We mentioned that Bruce Preston’s “How to convert your records?” was the highest attended General Meeting. This generated a discussion on the content of the upcoming presentation on backups. Among many other topics it should include:
    • How to recover data that I deleted in error?
    • How do I retrieve my data if my house burns down?

Operations

  • We discussed the possibilities that exist to conduct a Live meeting to accomodate Bruce Preston’s willingness to resume a very active role in DACS—Bruce is working on learning these applications for his database group to be conducted as a virtual meeting.
  • Address and external points of communication—more flexible and adaptable of change. Proposal to be a post office box or DACS address or forward to whoever is receiving the mail.
  • Jim Ritterbusch needs keys and a code now that he is the Linux SIG leader. Drew will give him his key but he reminded everyone that Greg Austin also has a key.

Announcements

  • Google voice has issued an initiation for DACS to use Google voicemail. It will allow us to log in to our web page answering machine and also will have email voice mails that can be transcribed by Google. Rob is testing out on line fax service. It would be best for both services to be connected to keep as an archive.
  • The discussion on communications issues of meetings and logistics (audio and visual) – was tabled for this month
  • The twentieth anniversary for DACS as a corporation is next year. Recognition possibilities: raffle, picnic (to be brought up at a general meeting)—needs a committee to organize any events.

Old Business

  • Richard bought a new $950 projector for the resource center. A $250 bulb was purchased last November for the current projector since the decision at the time was to not invest in a new projector. Jim proposed $900 for projector—excess amount to be a donation to DACS (7 voted yes – 2 abstained). The motion passed and Richard will provide a receipt to Charlie for the $900 reimbursement.
  • December Elections of Directors – Those coming up for reelection are: Jeff, Drew, Jim, Annette. There is one open spot (Jim to call Dick).
    • We still need to find replacements and backup for: Program chair/VP, PR, and President (REL final term).
    • Need replacement for Sean’s directorship

New Business

  • Proposed a change for the Board meeting from second Monday to second Wednesday of the month. A vote will be taken by email.

Rob motioned to adjourn, all seconded.

Mary Tobin
