Old Business

  1. General meetings
July 5: Converting Analog Recordings to Digital, Preview: Joseph Tobin, Review: Andy Woodruff
August 2: Norbert (Bob) Gostischa—Protecting Yourself and Your Identity Online (Avast! Security Seminar), Preview: Dave Green, Review: Patrick Libert
September 6: Dan O'Connor - Investment Tools, Preview: Jim Scheef, Review: Will ask Steve Harkness.
October 4: - Google? Pogue? Smart Computing?
November 1: Recording and Editing Live Music, Andy Woodruff and Sean Henderson
    Possible future topics:
David Pogue—Patrick got an e-mail response. How shall we proceed?
Mark Weiss—He responded to a request for follow-on to his HDTV presentation. He does not normally deal with consumer video formats:
WRT your request, my expertise is more centered around cinematography and shooting in state of the art HD along with the related processes of editing, compositing, special effects production, etc. My work doesn't involve working with consumer formats, so I would not be the expert for that particular niche. I am familiar with emerging display technologies, camera technologies, lenses and optics and high end software used for cinematic productions, with a strong emphasis on recording audio for concerts and ensemble performances, as this is the mainstream of my professional work. If your future discussion needs dovetails with the above, perhaps I can be of assistance.
Board decided his field is not appropriate for general membership meeting.
Smart Computing has a 'presentation in a box' available - 6 weeks advanced notice required.
Andy has a contact that may be available after Jan. 1st; he might be able to do a presentation on video editing at the consumer level.
Allan has a contact (Parker Moreland) in New Milford who may be able to do a presentation on remote (web-based) control of their observatory.
    Technology Gifts for the Holidays
    Mike Kaltsnee - Netflix expert
John Patrick will return in May 2012.
  2. Open positions
The membership chairperson position is still open.
This month Dave Green replaces Richard DiFranco on the board. Patrick Libert will send out press releases.
  3. DACS communications infrastructure update:
There is a problem with another piece of equipment—our own router does not work, so we are back to using the one on loan from Mags Net.
Our Google Voice number (203) 744-9198 is in operation. The website is updated with the new number, but the newsletter boilerplate needs to list our new general number.
  4. Display on DACS at the Danbury Library for September. The Marketing & Public Relations forum in the DACS forum will be the place to collect those. Jim, Andy, and Drew have volunteered for the committee and will hold a Skype conference.
  5. The dacs.org domain registration is temporarily on Jim Scheef's DynDNS.com account. The DACS Forum software has been updated to use MyBB and is now located at forum.dacs.org on Bluehost. I updated the Dreamweaver templates with the new URL. I have a copy of the DACS site on Bluehost, but need to update the calendar from ASP/Access to PHP/MySQL. The feedback form also needs to be updated.
  6. 2010 income report and 2011 budget. Dave gave to Andy for evaluation of 2010, is doing 2011.
