Next General Meeting:
Side-by-Side: How to do..?
For the 3 most popular operating systems!

Date:January 3, 2012
Location: Danbury Hospital Auditorium,
24 Hospital Ave, Danbury, doors open at 6:30 p.m.

By Bruce Preston

Most consumer computers come in one of three flavors; Windows, Mac OS X or Linux and often you find yourself reaching for the version you are most familiar with.  If you are curious about how all three type stack up against each other, the Danbury Area Computer Society January 3rd, 2012 General Meeting will answer many of your questions. The meeting will have a side-by-side comparison of how various common tasks are performed on each of the three most popular operating systems.

The program format will consist of a team of presenters – representing Mac (Richard Corzo,) Linux (Drew Kwashnak) and Windows 7 (Jim Scheef.)  After a brief description of the environment (hardware and operating system/version,) we will alternate between platforms with each presenter demonstrating items within the general topics:

System: The intent here is to show where files are stored, where programs are located, how to manage files, run applications, find or create shortcuts, install and remove applications.

Personalization: Everyone likes to customize their environment to reflect their personal preferences – so we will look at wallpaper, themes, etc.

Productivity: If your computer isn’t just a toy you will want to know how to edit and print documents; compose, send and receive e-mails; manage a calendar; manage contacts, etc.

Digital Images: How easy is it to import, organize/catalog, edit, and publish images?

Multimedia:  How do you download, organize/catalog, play music and/or videos?

Networking: What’s involved in creating a shared folder, or accessing a shared folder?

Once through the cycle, our presenters will be available for questions.  So come to the meeting and see some alternatives – perhaps one will be just what you have been wanting but just didn’t know it!
