Directors' Notes

 

September 13, 1999

 

A Regular Meeting of the Board of Directors was held at the Resource Center on September 13. Present were Messrs. Bovaird, Buoy, Cohen, David, Gingras, Ostergren and Setaro and Mrs. Gaberel. Also present was Mr. Paul Avery of the Housatonic Resource Recovery Authority. The minutes of the August meeting were read and approved

Finance and membership

Treasurer Charles Bovaird reported combined checking and postal account balances of $17,164.60 and postage on hand of $60.56 for a total of $17,225.16. He also reported current membership of 558.

News Times column

Discussion ensued regarding the latest DACS contributions to the High Tech pages of The News-Times, specifically feature articles by Robert Preston and Mike Kaltschnee, an omission of DACS acknowledgment and the claim by the News-Times that the electronic photograph files submitted with those articles were unusable by them.

Mr. Paul Avery of the Housatonic Resource Recovery Authority reported on the responses to his plea for volunteers at the September General Meeting and reviewed the more salient points of the HRRA's planned participation in a recycling day program to be held on the Danbury Green on October 17 as presented by the HRRA's Robert Palmer at the Board's last meeting. Mr. Avery agreed to approach Computers 4 Kids regarding licensing of DOS to be installed on and the warehousing of salvageable computers collected. He also advised of the cooperation of the Western Connecticut Regional Adult Continuing Education program, availability of non-DACS volunteers to handle the heavy lifting involved, and of questionnaires to be available for those
donating usable PCs so they can document the hardware configuration of their donations. It was agreed that the HRRA be permitted to use the DACS logo in promoting this recycling program.

It was agreed that Jeff Setaro attempt to set up a Newdeal presentation for the January General Meeting and that he obtain a spare bulb for the current projector used at General Meetings. He also advised that Microsoft's Windows 2000 Customer Satisfaction Tour and Technical Tips and Tricks
presentations would be held at the Southbury Hilton Hotel on October 20, 1999, at 6:30 p.m."
