DACS Malware Removal Toolkit
Part 1 – Introduction

By Andrew Woodruff

What is malware?

Malware is software that disrupts the operation of a computer … either so that your computer doesn’t do what you intend it to do, or so that your computer unscrupulously does something that someone else commanded it to do.
People often think that the word “virus” covers these issues, but actually a virus is only one particular type of malware.  There are other types of malware, as well.

On the following pages of this toolkit, we will discuss:

  • Part 2 – Types of Malware
  • Part 3 – How to Avoid Getting Malware
  • Part 4 – How to Protect Your Computer so that You can Easily Recover from Malware
  • Part 5 – How to Determine if Your Computer has Malware
  • Part 6 – How to Remove Malware
