Symptoms of Malware on a Personal Computer
- Popup menus
- Browser redirects
- Blue screen of death
- Longer program load times
- Slower system operation
- Computer runs hot
- Reduced memory or disk space
- Unusual error messages
- Unusual screen activity
- Strange messages appear
Note that some types of malware, such as some spyware, show no symptoms whatsoever.
What You can Do, to Determine if Your Computer has Malware that Shows No Symptoms
- Run your anti-malware application
- Compare current HiJackThis logs with those from before the possible malware infection
