Directors' Notes

July 9, 2001

A Regular Meeting of the Board of Directors was held at the Resource Center on July 9, 2001. Present were Messrs. Bovaird, Buoy, Cohen, Greger, Ostergren, Pearson, Preston and Setaro and Mrs. Gaberel. President Ostergren presided, Secretary Buoy kept the record. The minutes of the last meeting held June 11, 2001 were approved as presented.

Treasurer Charles Bovaird reported combined CDs, checking, postal account and postage on hand of $20,077.68, less prepaid dues of $6,802.00, a net of $13,275.68. Current membership is 482.

With respect to advertising of General Meetings and/or SIG meetings, Mr. Bovaird reported that he had checked with the News-Times as to the cost of the flyers inserted with home-delivered newspapers. Two price structures exist--one being for its entire market area--the other by individual towns within the marketing area. Both price structures include printing of photo-ready material. Further consideration on this subject was tabled until a comparative cost of so-called saturation mailings was obtained. Also mentioned were traditional media advertising and radio.

Mr. Bovaird further reported that he had emailed recent dropouts from membership requesting renewal thereof. There followed a discussion of possible reasons for past increases in membership as well as the current declines. A consensus evolved that increased emphasis on Special Interest Groups would be the most profitable course toward keeping current members and attracting additional members.

Bruce Preston proposed more frequent divergence from the usual vendor presentations through "in house" programs by members with expertise in fields that would benefit the general membership and that an effort be made to determine what problems and interests are shared by significant sectors of the membership. Bruce offered a program on ebay to be scheduled for the next available date.

President Ostergren proposed a program outlining the history of DACS , with a consensus leaning toward a series of articles in dacs.doc or, alternatively, a special edition thereof.

Further discussion of alternative sites for General Meetings, if such became necessary, was had with emphasis on negotiating with WesConn as the most promising site proposed.

A true record.

ATTEST:

Lawrence Buoy
Secretary
